Tear Trough Treatments Filler
The tear trough treatment is designed to reduce the effect of lost volume under the lower eyelid. The appearance of dark circles under the eye, can be due to a loss of volume in this area, or prominent veins under the thin under eye skin, or due to pigmentation, often brought about by excessive rubbing or cleansing for the eyelid region.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA dermal fillers) Dermal Fillers are one of the most reliable way of restoring volume to this area. They can be inserted either using a Needle-Droplet technique or by the more advanced Micro-Cannula technique, which Dr Prashant specialises in.
The procedure is relatively painless, and in most instances does not have any downtime.
The appearance of sunken under eye region, or tear troughs, or under eye hollows or dark circles, is often due to a combination of 3 things, loss of volume, prominent veins, and skin pigmentation.
There are several types of fillers that can be used in this area; the most popular are Hyaluronic acid fillers and Autologous Fat Transfer. Dr Prashant prefers the HA fillers as the use of Autologous Fat in this region is associated with a prolonged recovery and sometimes lumpiness in this very think skin.
Of the many different HA dermal fillers, the fillers Dr Prashant prefers are Restylane Lyft, Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Volift.
While most tear trough filler procedures are safe, the common tear trough complications or side effects, range from bruising, lumpiness, pigmentation, Tyndall affect, and in the rarest of instances problems with the blood supply to the skin or eyes.
Please see our gallery section were many of Dr Prashant’s excellent tear trough results are shown.
For most patients the effect of the Restylane Lyft dermal filler injections can last for up to an year or more, Juvederm Voluma and Volift can last up to an year or more, before needing top up.
In some instances, tear trough fillers can be a permanent solution for under eye dark circles, with results lasting up to 2 years at which time a small topup might be required.
We generally advise our patients to take it easy, and avoid straining, and exercise for 2 days follow-up the procedure. We also advise patients to sleep with a few extra pillows and avoid sleeping on the treated area.
